Housing charity talk to be given at URC in town

-

A REPRESENTATIVE of a homeless charity is to give a talk at a Hinckley church.

Adele Harris will be speaking at the United Reformed Church (URC) in The Borough about the work of Hope into Action.

She set up the Coventry franchise of the good cause in 2017 and work as the city co-ordinator, overseeing house and tenant support, and talking to other churches who want to partner with the project.

The charity was set up in Peterborough to help the church house the vulnerable and it now has over 70 homes in over 20 towns in England, housing 250 tenants who are supported by 63 partner churche.

Hope into Action has won many awards, including the silver Best Christian Social Action Award in 2015 and the Guardian ‘Best Housing Project in the country’ in 2017.

Founder Ed Walker visited the URC in Hinckley last year to address a fellowship group, with listeners keen to find out more about the work.

The charity buys a house, or houses, to give any tenant two rooms to live in and then makes sure that they are set up standards.

Once the tenant has moved in, a trained team gives them support and helps to deal with any issues they may have.

Adele is originally from South Africa but she moved over here in 1998 and is now married to a Briton.

Organisers of the event are hoping that at least one representative of each of the Hinckley and Burbage churches will come along.

The talk will take place on November 27 at 8pm.

All are welcome to attend. to the highest safety
