Farming student has won study bursary
A FARMING student from Burbage has won a bursary to fund her doctoral studies.
Chloe Dunne was awarded the Centenary Award from the National Farmers Union (NFU) Mutual Charitable Trust, to support her in her postgraduate agricultural studies.
She is reading for a PhD in Agricultural Systems and Management at the University of Nottingham, with the bursary to cover 75 per cent of her course fees.
Her course will give her a deeper understanding and appreciation of the role of women in UK agriculture.
Chloe is one of only four students from across the UK to receive the funding.
She said: “It is a real honour to have NFU Mutual supporting my postgraduate studies.
“My PhD Thesis will focus on the role of women in UK agriculture, exploring the factors affecting the take up of agricultural leadership roles for females and strategies to encourage greater leadership diversity.”
She added: “My passion is to make a difference in agriculture and play an active role in the farming community.
“I hope that my studies will provide insights and enhance current knowledge on the contribution women can make to UK agriculture.”
The Centenary Award was launched by the rural insurer to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2010.
Announcing the recipients for 2019, Jim McLaren, chairman of the group, said: “Our aim for the Centenary Award is to create a long-standing legacy whereby we can support research and innovation, and alongside this demonstrate our commitment to young people and the countryside.”
