West Side Story is based on a conception of Jerome Robbins, with a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. ‘Tonight,’ and
‘IFeel have been popular, and in between the monthly weekends away, Sunday walks in the Peaks, Cotswolds and the Chilterns have also been going on.
Climbing has made a resurgence in the club with members and potential members taking on a climbing course at Warwick University, which has proved so popular that more courses are planned.
As well as the indoor climbing wall, experienced members have taken some of the beginners outdoors onto rock crags for a different perspective on climbing.
This should continue in the coming months.
The meeting was held at Dove House in the grounds of Ilam Hall in the Peak District, where more than 40 members enjoyed an excellent three course dinner cooked by members.
Awards were made, the much coveted Tats, awarded for some of the dafter things that people did during the year.
The four Mont Blanc climbers, Chris, Ali, Elvyn and Kev, were awarded one off awards, Elvyn a special award for completing the Munros, and Ali was awarded the Don Axe award for mountaineering efforts.
Kev was awarded the President’s Shield for help and encouragement he gave to others particularly in the Alps.
The group is now looking forward to a weekend in the Howgills, a range of hills in the Yorkshire Dales but part of Cumbria, a day walk is planned in the Peak District and then a weekend in North Wales.
The club meets at The New Plough Inn, Hinckley on Thursdays at 9pm, with more information on the group’s Facebook group and website.
