SHOPPERS will be able to enjoy a magical experience at Highcross as the shopping centre kicks off its Christmas activities.

Winter Galactical, a futuristic festive celebration, will take place on Thursday, November 21 between 5pm and 8pm.

The event coincides with the switching on of Leicester’s Christmas lights, so there will be plenty to enjoy in the city that evening.

The Highcross event, which is free to attend, will take place in St Peter’s Square and will feature pop-up performances from visitors from a far-away land, as the shopping centre explores what Christmas could look like 100 years from now.

Boogie Storm, the Britain’s Got Talent act, will be headlining the festivities and will perform two 10-minute sets full of well-known songs, some with a Christmas twist.

The dance act shot to fame in 2016 with their precision moves to the latest pop tunes dressed as the iconic Star Wars Stormtroopers.

Visitors to Winter Galactical will get the chance to wander around St Peter’s Square as it fills with mist and beams of sparkling light, creating a seasonally galactic glow with acts including Titan the Robot, Megabot and Raijin Storm.

Before the main event, shoppers can get into the spirit at the Jägerhaus, a festive snug, serving hot chocolate, mulled wine and other traditional German and British seasonal food and drinks.

Families can also grab a selfie with the reindeer which will fly into St Peter’s Square from early November.

For those that want to cosy up away from the winter weather, the 12-screen Cinema de Lux will be showcasing blockbusters including Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which launches on December 19, and the highly anticipated Frozen 2: Into the Unknown, out on November 22.

Jo Tallack, general manager at Highcross Leicester, said: “This year’s Christmas celebrations are set to be really special for the people of Leicester.

“We’ve decided to keep with the tradition but in a completely new and thought-out way that will offer shoppers an experience that is literally out of this world.

“It’s the perfect time with the latest Star Wars also set to grace our big screens this winter.

“Boogie Storm is an incredible talent and between the visual effects, their amazing performance and some festive surprises along the way, we know local people will leave feeling completely in the spirit.”

Shoppers will also be able to take advantage of extended opening hours over the festive season at Highcross.
