TWO dogs found in Leicestershire after being stolen 110 miles away in Berkshire have been reunited with their owners.

Silky and Wish were taken from a garden at an address in the Iver area, near Slough, Berkshire, on Monday, October 21.

Four weeks later, Leicestershire Police officers carrying out unrelated inquiries in relation to a burglary in Earl Shilton

searched an unoccupied car and found the dogs abandoned inside.

The animals were taken to Hinckley police station before being passed over to the dog warden, where they were medically assessed and cared for.

A social media message was posted showing a picture of Silky and Wish, and Pc Rachael Hughes was tasked with finding the owners.

The owners made contact with police, and an arrangement was made to reunite them.

Pc Hughes said: “When we approached the abandoned vehicle, the last thing we expected to find were a couple of chihuahuas. On closer inspection we could see they had been left without food or water and appeared frightened, cold and bewildered.

“A decision was made, in the first instance, to get them to a place of warmth and safety as we tried to find out who they belonged to.

“Thinking social media would be our best bet, a Facebook

Wish.

“The result was amazing. On the back of our appeal we received hundreds of messages and about 30 calls.

“Members of the public had shared our appeal which concluded with the rightful owners coming forward.”

The moment the dogs and their owners were reunited at force headquarters was emotional.

Rose Smith, one of the owners, said: “When we realised issued alongside of Silky and

Silky and Wish were missing we were absolutely devastated and as time went by, without any news, we thought we’d lost them forever.

“I can’t tell you how happy we felt on seeing the social media appeal, knowing they’d been found.

“We are so grateful for the care, love and attention shown to Silky and Wish during their ordeal.

“We can’t thank the officers and the dog warden enough for making this day possible.”
