George Ward earn decisive win to take top spot in the league over Hit and Hope

DIVISION Two of the Hinckley Table Tennis League saw the clash of the big two, when George Ward C took on league leaders Hit and Hope A. in what could turn out to be a title decider.

The Barwell side showed no mercy to the opponents recording an 8 sets to 2 victory to take them above the Leicester Road side. Roger Hill (GWC) was again in outstandin­g form winning all three of his matches and club mates Liam Davies and Luke Haskins both took two wins in the win.

Bryan Moylan (H&HA) took two good wins for his team. GWC took their next match against GWF by 10 sets to nil. Hill again impressing win three good wins and good to see Chris Thomas (GWC) playing again after a long illness

Hit and Hope A won their next match by 8 sets to 2 over Mkt Bosworth 1 with Moylan collecting three good wins. For Bosworth John Veasey won two of his matches but it was not enough to stop Hit and Hope. Best game of the night was between Ian Nixon (H&HA) and Dave Knappett (MB1), it went all the way to five games with Nixon just clinching it 11-8 in the fifth.

The match between GWG and GWE was a close contest considerin­g that GWE are close to the top of the table and GWG sit below midway in the league. GWG went two sets up with wins by James Walker (GWG) over Matt Wynne (GWE) and Matt Halliday (GWG) winning a five game set over Alana Richardson (GWE) 11-6 in the final game. GWE then took the next six sets to lead by 6 sets to 2 before Halliday (GWG) overcame M Wynne (GWE) in the ninth set and then combined with Freya Wynne (GWG) to win the doubles to make the final score 6 sets to 4 for GWE.

In their next game GWE collected an easy victory over Cat E by 10 sets to nil.

GWG in their next fixture visited Desford side Cat F and in a tight match lost by 7 sets to 3. Simon Gresty (Cat F) was player of the match winning his three, despite a very close set with Tom Kelly (GWG) which went to five games Gresty closing it out 13-11 in the fifth.

In the Battle of Bosworth MB1 defeated their own second team by 8 sets to 2. Harry Thomas claiming player of the match with three fine wins.

The table sees GWC leading, Hit and Hope A second and Hit and Hope B in third spot.
