Secret super hero hands out gifts

POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS KINDNESS OF MAN WHO HAS DISHED OUT LITTLE GIFTS TO STRANGERS FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS

A KIND-hearted man who has been giving out chocolates and other gifts to strangers for more than 20 years has had his kind deeds publicly recognised, thanks to social media.

Driving instructor Chris Buckler, from Earl Shilton, has been dishing out doughnuts, sweets and even loaves of bread to both friends and strangers for more than 20 years.

His generosity has now been recognised after he brightened up one woman’s day by giving her a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine in Morrisons car park in the town.

The grateful woman later posted her story on Spotted Hinckley and asked that the mystery man be given recognition for his kindness.

Of the encounter in the car park, she said: “I politely said I couldn’t accept and he said ‘I need to do something nice for someone everyday so I go to Heaven.’ Yes, I am now crying in Morrison’s car park.

“As I was leaving, I noticed he had put a pack of doughnuts on someone’s van window, too.

“Whoever this lovely man is, thank you for your kind heart and gesture, you’ve made my day a little brighter.

“If this is your dad / grandad / son/ brother whatever, he is a beautiful man and I hope he sees this.

“There are good people in this world after all.”

Many people commented beneath the post to identify Chris and that they had received gifts from him, and added that they had seen him leaving gifts for people at the checkouts at Aldi in the town.

One said: “What a wonderful man. Superheroes do exist, they just don’t wear a cape. Huge respect to him and his family.”

But humble Chris, 68, said it was just part of his routine and he is happy if he can help bring a smile to people’s faces:

“I have no reason, it’s just something I do,” he said.

“If I stop to get petrol for driving lessons, I just get a bar of chocolate for someone.

“The feeling you get from giving to somebody rather than receiving is better. You see the impact it makes on somebody’s day.”

Chris often takes sweets when he goes to play badminton at Hinckley Leisure Centre, to give to the receptionists and to the other players.

“Most folks are just stunned when you give or leave things for them,” he said.

The driving teacher also regularly picks up an extra loaf of bread at Connor’s bakery in the town, to give to his neighbours or to others.

He is also known for his poetry, as he writes a poem for each of his students once they have passed their driving test, which he posts on Facebook.

Some of his rhymes, dedicated to Connor’s,even features on the wall of the bakery.
