Village Christmas market a success

-

BURBAGE Parish Council would like to thank everyone who helped to make the second annual Christmas Market such a success.

The event was organised in partnership with East Midlands Markets & Events Ltd and was supported by surrounding businesses, community organisations and churches, whose extra attractions greatly added to the event.

Special thanks go to Burbage Beavers, St Catherine’s Carollers and The Craic for braving the cold to keep market-goers entertained and to DJ Josh of Dizzy Discos for keeping the event going with a swing throughout the evening.

Volunteers staffing road closures did a sterling job in extreme conditions and thanks are due to all who respected the temporary traffic arrangements, which were put in place for public safety reasons.

Hinckley Air Cadets helped to keep the street litter free, and St John Ambulance volunteers provided first aid cover.

Across the village, new arrivals at The Horsepool delighted younger visitors: A trio of penguins on a floating ‘ice’ sheet and a pair of unicorns joined long-standing festive favourites, ‘Rudolph’ and ‘Bambi.’

It was great to see so many people turn out to enjoy the evening, and we hope that as many will want to join us for Carols Round the Tree, hosted by St Catherine’s Church, by the Coronation Tree on Church Street, on Friday December 20 at 7pm.

The event is to be attended by the Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth and a collection will be held for her chosen charities.

Road closures and diversions will be in place for that event, between 6pm and 9pm, and the council appreciates residents and visitors respecting the restrictions, for the benefit of public safety.

Members and staff wish all Burbage residents a peaceful Christmas, and look forward to sharing more news through monthly bulletins published in The Local Rock, from January 2020.
