Can Labour transfer in Rory Stewart as leader?

-

WELL, to quote The Stones, “It’s all Over Now.” And though they go marching on, the same cannot be said for Labour with such optimism: perhaps even more so for the Liberal Democrats. However, the extent of the Conservative’s victory must surely have come as a shock of mammoth proportions to all and sundry.

As a Labour supporter I’ve maintained for some time that I was being pushed towards being politically homeless. I voted for Brexit. In favour therefore of cutting immigration and the seven point system in this respect. In effect this coupled with disillusionment with politicians in general was a prime reason for my stance. For some parties, however, this all seems to have fallen deaf ears, and my goodness, have they paid the price.

Labour’s downfall has already been hotly disputed. Perhaps the prime reason being featured in the above more particularly since the front bench argued for Remain putting Corbyn in an extremely difficult situation. And though I have not personally been so critical of the leader, I have to admit that it was a great risk to field him when presented by the media as a sort of marmite character and absolutely demonized by the press. Also the party’s manifesto, though containing many admirable elements, was of ridiculous proportions. Further, though an advocate of the comprehensive system of education, I am not against the private sector of schools.

As regards the Liberal “Democrats” their downfall is precisely in the name; a failure to recognise the will of the people in trying to overturn the result of the referendum. Plus of course they appear to “have had” a totally deluded though sincere and well intentioned leader, conjuring up images of Alice in Wonderland. Just a few days before the election she was maintaining that people were joining them in “the tens of thousands”.

In all we can all feel there has been something of a farcical element to the whole affair since the majority of MPs, conservatives in particular, seem to have voted for Remain.

But with Boris at the helm no one will surely go to sleep whilst he’s performing with his classical expressive language and alike. And as regards Labour, tongue in cheek, I just wish there was a transfer market and I’d try to entice Rory Stewart, barmy though it may seem, more particularly since he is a tory at heart. There you go!
