Time to take pride in your local area

-

I am bemused, frustrated and (very) angry at the conveyor belt procession of people who believe that they have every right to allow their dogs to urinate over my front garden/drive and those of my neighbours?

Their indignation, (when challenged) is only surpassed, by their insistence that they have every right to do it, and are causing no harm? Wrong, it is aggravated trespass and urine is toxic to plants, and is killing mine!

We have a fabulous parks and open spaces team on the borough council, who work so hard to give us a great environment, who have planted daffodils, to enhance the open spaces.

Yet (some) dog owners take delight in seeing their pets frolic through the flowers, destroying them, while others bulldoze through, with pushchairs, taking a shortcut.

What I describe is not the problem but symbolic of it, which is a vociferous minority, who believe they have rights. But others don’t and fail to appreciate how fortunate they are to live in such an area as they do, and therefore, do not care about destroying it.

I would welcome the borough council, and all agencies for that matter to start a “Civic Pride” initiative, to instil in people a sense of pride in the borough and have some respect for other people’s property, and the location.

Perhaps, as we start a new year, we can just take note of our good fortune to live in such a great part of this great country of ours, and caring costs nothing, but contributes so much.

Think on.
