Trail of destruction in village blamed on flatbed truck driver

VILLAGERS are counting the cost after seven parked cars were damaged in one night.
Residents in Thurlaston, near Earl Shilton, believe a driver of a flatbed truck is responsible for damaging the cars on Main Street and Desford Road.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said his CCTV shows a truck crashing into a VW Golf in Main Street in the early hours of Monday January 6.
“Information on the village grapevine suggests that this truck hit a number of cars as it went through the village about midnight on Sunday.
“On my footage you can see it bang into the back of a car as it goes past. You can see the parked car shake on impact. I think it ripped the bumper off.
“The police came and took the CCTV footage from me.
“I hope they catch the person who did this. It has caused a lot of misery to many people.”
Villager Chris Bisset said there was a Nissan Qashqai with its back bumper hanging off just across from his house.
He said: “My son’s friend came back from his work shift at about 12.30am and told us that he had noticed that a number of parked cars in the village had been damaged.
“It seems this truck was on a bit of a wrecking spree.
“We went out for drive around, half expecting to find a car in a ditch, that someone who perhaps had enjoyed too much refreshment had been wreaking havoc. All we found was a number of cars with varying amounts of damage to them. Some had their entire bumpers hanging off. It’s not good at all.”
A police spokesman said officers been contacted about damage and enquiries are ongoing, and anyone whose car was damaged that night or who has information should contact the force on 101.
