POLICE SHOULD DO A LOT MORE, SAYS TARGETED BUSINESSMAN

CCTV footage shows the moment a man tried to kick the wing mirror off a van parked in a street.

The footage was captured in Druid Street, Hinckley, on December 30.

The owner of the van, who asked not to be named, said there were several incidents in 2019 where vehicles parked on the street had been broken into or damaged.

Druid Street connects Derby Road to Holliers Walk and is home to a number of businesses and red brick factory buildings.

In a separate, unconnected incident, thieves stole beer after removing the door from the hinges at venue The Factory in the early hours of January 5.

Mick Huddlestone, 66, has run the venture since 1985 and said they have not had a break-in for 20 years.

He said: “It’s one of those things where you just have to wipe your mouth and walk away.

“It’s irritating because we had to get a carpenter out to make the door secure, on a Sunday morning.

“We are going to consider whether to claim or not, whether it’s worth it.”

A police spokesman said: “A quantity of alcohol was taken. There have been no arrests. Inquiries are being carried out to find those responsible.”

Jason Baggott, who runs Terry Taylor Garages on the road, was targeted by would-be van thieves in spring 2019.

“There’s a lot that goes on on this street, crime-wise”, said Mr Baggott.

“We have got alarm systems, the thieves know that but it doesn’t stop them.

“The police should do a lot more.” Call 101 if you have any information about the incidents.
