‘About 30 cars’ have windows smashed
Thousands of pounds to repair damage from wrecking spree
VANDALS have caused thousands of pounds of damage during a car window-smashing spree across south Leicestershire.
The apparently random attacks on cars parked in several villages, mainly in the Lutterworth area, took place either late on Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday January 5.
People living in South Kilworth, Ashby Parva, Upper Bruntingthorpe, Kimcote, Walcote, Leire, Dunton Bassett, Gilmorton and Walton woke to discover smashed windows.
Damage was caused to both front and rear windscreens.
One post, on the Spotted Lutterworth Town Facebook page, said: “About 30 cars had their car windows smashed last night.
“Walton, Gilmorton Kimcote, Bruntingthorpe and more.”
One villager said: “I live in Walton and woke up to my rear window being smashed.
“It seemed to occur between 4am and 5am.
“They seemed to hit any car facing towards Lutterworth and I know about four others at the top of the village were hit. Several passers-by came to speak to me as I was clearing the mess up.
“I have two children’s seats in the car and this didn’t deter them.”
A police spokeswoman said the force was called on the Sunday morning about a rear window of a car being smashed while parked in Hall Lane, Walton.
“It is reported to have happened between 3.30am and 9am on the morning of January 5,” she said.
“We also received a report of a rear window being smashed in Mere Road, Upper Bruntingthorpe.
“It was reported on Sunday morning, to have happened at about 8pm on Saturday.
“No arrests have been made.” Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
