Neil Bedder and Claire Hudson pick up awards at presentation event
NEIL Bedder and Claire Hudson were named as winners of the most improved men and women’s players of the year at the annual presentation day of Kingscroft Bowls Club, Earl Shilton.
However, in a most successful season for the club two members stood out, Jamie-Lea Winch and Joe Dawson.
Jamie-Lea was a senior international and, like Joe, has been selected for this year’s England squad, the latter also being honoured by being chosen as a rink skip. She won the national four wood singles and with Joe reached the semi-finals of the national mixed pairs.
Other county successes for JamieLea were runner-up in the four wood singles and with Nicola Hughes beaten finalists in the pairs as well as being a member of the triples winners with Sally-Ann Lewis-Wall and Helen Lewis-Wall.
Cath Locking won the county secretaries and delegates salver, Julie Wilkins was county runner-up in the national senior singles and Kingscroft were Leicestershire winners in the national top club ladies’ competition.
Joe won the county two wood singles beating clubmate Ryan Lowe, was runner-up in the four wood event and these two combined with Chris Moore to take the triples title.
Ryan was also the under-25 county singles champion and with New Lount’s Nick Wardle runners-up in the same age group pairs.
Other honours for Joe were being a semi-finalist in the national four wood singles and with Mick Haywood leading the Kingscroft B team to the Hinckley and District Triples League championship. The club team was runner-up in the county unbadged double rink event.
