Hit and Hope’s A team take win over its B team

-

IN Division Two of the Hinckley Table Tennis League the long awaited clash between the two Hit and Hope teams to determine who would sit in second place in the table did not disappoint when they clashed recently at their Leicester Road base.

Hit & Hope B raced into a two set lead but then Ian Nixon (H&HA) won a close five game set against Chris Taylor (H&HB) 11-8 and his team-mate Bryan Moylan (H&HA) overcame Alan Morris (H&HB) to level the scores. Dave Shaw (H&HA) and Moylan then won the next two sets to go two up. Taylor pulled one back for the B side before Nixon defeated Steve Lawton (H&HB) to put the A team 5sets to 3 up. Lawton beat Shaw to pull one back but in the doubles the A team through Moylan and Nixon ensured a 6 sets to 4 victory for Hit and Hope A to take the bragging rights. Their joy was short lived as in their next fixture they could only manage a draw against the young George Ward G side. Player of the match was James Walker (GWG).

Hit and Hope B fared better picking up a 10 sets to nil win over G Ward F in their next game but despite the final score they did not have it all their own way. Three sets went to five games and a further three to four games before the final result. Dael Sidwell (H&HB) being awarded player of the match.

G Ward F who are gaining confidence with every match came close to winning their fixture with Market Bosworth 1, in a close match they just lost by 6 sets to 4. John Veasey (MB1) winning his three. For G Ward F Pete Lee won two sets and colleagues John Bedford and Zoltan Retkes one apiece.

Cat G and G Ward E fought out a tight match which ended honours even in a five all draw. Jack Dennis (GWE) was in outstanding form again collecting three fine wins and team mate Matt Wynne picking up two good wins. Whist Eiz Eddin Al Katrib (Cat G) collected two wins for the home team. In their next match GWE beat Cat F by 7 sets to three, thanks to maximums from both Dave Richardson and Jack Dennis.

League leaders G Ward C were pushed hard by Cat G before collecting a hard won 7 sets to 3 win over the Desford side. Roger Hill (GWC) collecting his usual three whilst Eiz Eddin Al Katrib took two for Cat G.

The league table sees GWC top with 85 points 9 more than both Hit and Hope A and GWE both on 76 pts and in fourth spot Hit & Hope B on 75 points.
