St Francis Centre celebrates its 20th birthday
A COMMUNITY centre Hinckley has celebrated 20th anniversary.
St Francis Community Centre in Tudor Road held a day of activities to mark the occasion with the bishop of Leicester, Martyn Snow, in attendance.
He said that “eating chocolate with others is far better than eating broccoli alone”, speaking of the centre’s purpose in its in caring for those who are lonely and in need.
The facility provides a host of fitness, craft and educational activities.
Brian Davis, ex vicar of St Mary’s Hinckley gave a summary of the history of the land and building, as he oversaw the opening 20 years ago.
Also present were the deputy mayor and mayoress of Hinckley and Bosworth, architect Colin Rusted, and current users, visitors, previous volunteers and employees.
The deputy chief scouting commissioner surprised and honoured John Ward with a certificate in recognition of his continued work with the scouts.
St Francis Centre is built on the former scout hut and with scouting and guiding groups coming along to support the afternoon.
Younger members from the Tracey Michelle Drama Academy (TMDA) who meet there on Saturdays gave a demonstration.
Music was provided by a rock choir, providing some big anthems and well known rock and pop.
Organisers said they were thrilled to see how the event turned out, with people sharing their stories
New additions at the centre include a breakfast club, which meets every Tuesday from 10am until noon, and a friendship cafe which meets every Friday from 10am to noon.
