Charity champ holds party to celebrate challenge

Nathan completed a year of challenges to raise charity cash

A CHARITY champion who ran a whole year of events in aid of a host of good causes has concluded his project with a special dinner.

Nathan Cheney, from Hinckley, organised a meal and auction at the Green Rooms in the town to round off his marathon effort.

The 39-year-old said: “Its been an incredible year, I have to admit that at the beginning of 2019 it seemed a little daunting and I did wonder if I’d over committed myself.

“Fortunately, at every step of the way I have had the support of friends and family alike, always cheering me on and helping out where they could.

“If I could summarise the reason for success in this year it would be support.”

The dad took on the year of challenges in a bid to test himself physically and mentally and to raise awareness and funds for charities nationally and locally.

He catalogued his journey through the Cheney’s Charity Challenges website and Facebook page.

The first feat was a 10km run around Draycote Water for Diabetes UK, which he finished in just 65 minutes, which was four minutes faster than his goal.

He has also completed an 100km row, an 100 mile walk, a marathon and an 100 mile cycle, raising more than £3,500.

Mr Cheney said: “I am happy with how we’ve done this year although I always want to do more and have already plans to attempt the 3 Peaks Challenge again, being the one challenge we failed to complete.

“I just hope I’ve inspired others to go out and do something too.”

Another of the events he took part in was the Coventry half marathon, which he finished on behalf of Barnardo’s Children’s in just two hours and 12 minutes, beating his target.

The varied challenges included a 13,000 foot tandem parachute jump over Peterborough, in aid of Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland.
