Officials hoping to trace who dumped the rubbish

A TEDDY bear and a welding helmet could be the key to finding out who was responsible for a huge pile of rubbish being dumped near Hinckley.

The “extremely large” fly tip was found strewn across the entrance to a field on the Bosworth Road near Kirkby Mallory.

Officers from Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council went out to investigate the haul of compacted refuse and found a number of recognisable items.

They shared pictures of the items on the council’s Facebook page in hopes that people may see something they have seen before.

It said: “Do you recognise anything found here? Perhaps from a house clearance or something you believed had been disposed of correctly by a waste carrier?

“Items include a fancy dress costume, a small flower bed topper, a lace shirt and love heart pyjama bottoms.

“A welding helmet which contains initials S.W., a red sofa cushion and a worn teddy bear. Thanks for your assistance, please share away.”

Senior clean neighbourhood officer Lisa Kirby went out to inspect the pile of rubbish.

She said: “I have got quite a few leads from social media, with information about who it could be, so we have got some leads to chase up.”

She said the fly tip is in quite a dangerous place, near a dip in the road, and that they hope to remove it later this month, when the road is due to close.

Officials believe it was dumped there at some time between the evening of Friday February 7 and the morning of Saturday February 8.

The council initially posted on its Facebook page about the detritus when it was discovered, appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

It said: “Were you in the area at this time, did you witness any suspicious activity or see this happen?

“Please get in touch with our Clean Neighbourhoods team on 01455 255977.

“The waste appears to be shredded and compacted, and most likely stored for some time.

“Unfortunately due to it’s location to the highway this waste will be difficult and costly for us to remove.

“Please be reassured the team are aware and dealing with as quickly as they can.”

A woman who lives nearby said: “It’s very sad, completely spoils the look of the land.”
