Spring tide could cause river problems

-

A survey concluded that 74 percent of drivers would drive through the flood water. Perhaps an indication of normal behaviour with such a huge majority. The other 26 percent who would turn back may be sensible.

For the majority the weather is just something to enjoy a light read in a newspaper or view on the television news. Rescue or recovery from flood will not happen to the majority and will only be of interest to those disrupted by reduced transport links or temporary loss to the local economy.

Being an interested individual to improve the environment: I have reported to Leicestershire County Council (LCC) a blocked roadside drain (gully) with a photograph of the gully uploaded to the LCC website. LCC have appreciated my effort by e-mail to confirm the gully has been cleaned. On occasion while crouching to take a photograph a caring person has stopped to ask “have you lost something?” or “are you having a heart attack?”. Oh to be normal.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP 26 to be in Glasgow in November may not be of interest to the majority except to watch a celebrity on the television. The £1.2 billion to be spent by the government for a new weather and climate super computer for the UK MetOffice to provide more accurate warning of flood; may be better spent for an increase in flood defence.

There will be a Super Full Moon on Monday 9 March at 47 minutes past 5pm.

The increased gravitational pull on the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea by the Moon with that of the Sun will cause a Spring Tide (exceptional High Tide) for a couple of days. The Spring Tide will slow the flow of the River Trent at Keadby in North Lincolnshire, which is tidal. The River Trent will cause the River Soar and the River Wreake (which flows to the River Soar at Rothley) to slow. The River Trent will also slow the River Tame which will slow the River Anker at Tamworth in Staffordshire. If there is heavy rain, there may be localised flooding in some parts of Leicestershire due to the rivers unable to discharge all of the rainfall.
