Vets ease relegation worries with good win over Telford
HINCKLEY Vets A team eased the pressure of relegation by defeating Telford by 7 sets to 3 in their recent meeting.
Harry White won his three in style, with team-mates Jason Woodfield taking two and Alex Mason winning one plus taking the doubles. This win moves them 7 points clear of Telford who are now bottom of the table.
Hinckley Vets B team also had a good win in Division 4 of the Midland
Vets League defeating local rivals Coventry by 9 sets to 1. Russ Pettit was in good form collecting three good wins, although he had to fight hard to beat Avtar Disange in a five set match he closed it out 11-6 in the fifth. Their next match against Nuneaton B saw them collect a further 9 sets to 1 win with both Pettit and Pete Jamieson winning three each and Richard Chesters taking two victories. This victory puts Hinckley B firmly at the top of
Division 4. They have played five matches and have won four and drawn one and currently have 37 points, in second spot are Nuneaton C on 31pts.
In the preliminary round of the Table Tennis Holt Trophy Cat A overcame their own H team by 7 sets to 2. Rhys Emery (Cat A) recorded a maximum, whilst Jason Prescott (Cat H) won two for his side. They now go into the quarter finals which are played in mid-march
Two of the favourites for the Dry Logic Cup met in the 1st round of this completion. These two sides currently occupy first and second spot in Division Two of the league which just a couple of points separating them so it was always going to be a tense and close affair. GWE went four sets to 2 up thanks to Jack Dennis’s (GWE) fine win over Luke Haskins (GWC), and then with Alana Richardson winning the next game to claim victory for the E team. GWE now also go through to the quarter Finals which are to be player w/c 16th March.
