WITH pitches across the region wetter than the Niagra Falls it came as a bit of a surprise to find out that the game at Lichfield would actually go ahead.

With a development side selected to represent Hinckley, the game kicked off with Lichfield immediately applying pressure and taking an early lead with a well-worked try. Hinckley came straight back with the forwards pulling in the opposition and then the backs exploiting the space the forwards created a great team try, finished off by the full back. Lichfield hit straight back, taking the score to 10-5.

The Hinckley forwards powered over the line to even up the score 10-10. From the kick off, Hinckley increased the pressure, quickly moving back into the Lichfield half. The pressure paid off with Hinckley scoring again 10-15. Lichfield regained the ball from the kick off and with the last play of the third, broke away to score. 15-15.

With the wind and a bit of a slope, Lichfield started to dominate the game, running in two quick scores to lead 25-15. The Hinckley winger scored two quick unanswered tries, the scrum half added a third and a fourth, the game was left finally balanced at 40-40 with 10 minutes left to play. Both sides fought ferociously. With 2 minutes to go Hinckley were awarded a free kick 5 metres from the Lichfield line. The fly half took a crash ball and with the forwards latching on to the resulting maul drove the ball over the line for the fly half to score the winning try. Final score Lichfield 40 - Hinckley 45. Special mention to the Hinckley hooker for some outstanding work in the scrum. Lincoln and North Hykeham RFC

U16s V Hinckley RFC U16s

As a result of the numerous recent storms most of Leicestershire and the surrounding counties rugby pitches were under water. As a result Hinckley U16s were grateful for an offer of a fixture from the newly amalgamated team of Lincoln and North Hykeham RFC. Hinckley U16s and its loyal supporters travelled over to Lincolnshire to find the last playable grass pitch in the region.

The Hinckley lads were itching for a game after last weeks cancellation and unfortunately the very green opposition took the brunt. The black and ambers youngsters scored 19 tries without a response to convincingly win the game 0 – 123. Tries from 12 different players showed this was a team win for Hinckley and fair play to the newly formed opposition who repeatedly told their coaches they wanted to continue the game.

The players are hoping for a break in the wet weather to get back into competitive matches on the run up to the county cup final in April.
