COMPETITORS YOUNG AND OLD TAKE PART IN TOWN PANCAKE RACE
SEVENTY intrepid pancake racers of all ages braved the cold and damp and took to Castle Street on Shrove Tuesday to try to win one of the coveted Hinckley BID PancakeRace Trophies.
Running up the hill in small groups and stopping every 10 metres to flip their pancake, several had dressed especially for the occasion including the three animal mascots from Twycross Zoo, Play 360 and Hinckley Leisure Centre.
In addition to the trophies, every entrant was awarded a specially crafted commemorative medal by Hinckley Mayor, Councillor Lynda Hodgkins.
The winner of the Best Dressed Pancake Flipper went to Stripes the Tiger from Twycross Zoo, the Excellent Effort award went to the Base 2 Be team, the Junior Race Runner-up was Trixie May from St Mary’s School and the overall Junior Race Winner was Cole from St Mary’s School who ran flat out to beat his fellow class mates to the win.
The Senior Race Runner-up was Simon Jones – leader of the Cultural Services department at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, while the overall Senior Race Winner was Tom Upton from Steamin Billy - who fought off fierce competition ensuring that Steamin Billy won yet again!
Described by several of the large crowd who had gathered to watch as a ‘very enjoyable free community event’, the next free major events organised by Hinckley BID are the Soap Box Derby to be held on Castle Streeet on Sunday July 5 and the Classic Motor Show to be held in Hinckley Town Centre on Sunday September 20.
