Feeding the ducks in Argents Mead has always been a favourite past time for generations of townsfolk and our picture shows what it looked like around 1970.
There is a super picture of how the corner of New Buildings and Stockwell
Head used to look with the large Methodist Chapel on the corner and the quaint town shops that once stood there.
We also see the sad demise of the diseased trees that once lined Hollycroft Hill. Many recall how splendid these looked.
After the trees were gone it looked very strange for many years until nature and done her work with the view we have today.
Wilko opened in town in 1978 in Castle Street with the carnival atmosphere of steel drums playing and excited crowds waited in anticipation of this new store that still trades in the town today.
We are sure many will remember ‘The White House’ that stood quite majestically on St Mary’s Road.
This stood on the site of the old Manor House and Priory site. Today Churchmead Court stands here along with Florence House.
Then Jim Tomlinson, a name so well known to Hinckley Times readers, took this super period shot of a policeman riding on his bike on the cobbles that once were in Baines Lane.
