THREAD BUTTON BRACELETS

-

COLOURFUL buttons can be bought quite cheaply from a fabric shop, or haberdashery. String them up in different ways to make eye-catching jewellery.

YOU WILL NEED:

Buttons of different shapes, colours and sizes; Shirring elastic, thin cord or embroidery thread

METHOD

1. Before you start threading, lay out your buttons to make patterns. Consider how long you need your bracelets to be. I found shirring elastic the easiest to use when threading small buttons.

2. Elastic is stretchy, so works well when it comes to taking your bracelets on or off. When all your buttons are threaded, the ends can simply be tied off to make a bracelet.

3. Coming up with your own designs is part of the fun, but these are some of the threading techniques I used for each bracelet below:

4. Stack differentsized buttons on top of each other. Make your stack first, threading it with elastic. Then tie the stack to your bracelet.

5. Thread a piece of cord through two holes in one large button to make a loop. Pass the loose ends of the cord through the loop and pull to catch hold of the button. Take another piece of cord and repeat with the two holes on the other side.

6. Buttons are threaded face to face, like beads.

7. Pass the thread down through the top hole and up through the bottom hole of the first button. The thread should then go up through the top hole and down through the bottom hole of the next button. This gives an alternating look.

8. Use four-hole buttons and two cords. With the first cord, thread the left hand pair of holes on each button until all of them are attached. Then take the next cord and thread each right hand pair of holes.

9. Adult supervision is recommended when crafting.
