A HISTORY group in Hinckley is using live videos to keep on with its sessions.

Hinckley and District Past and Present is doing Facebook live broadcasts to showcase old pictures and footage from around the town.

Organiser Paul Gardner is running the virtual sessions, which he said have been viewed by many people.

He said: “What’s really surprised me is how much people have been tuning in.

“The first broadcast had over 80 live views, while I was doing it. After it was finished, it passed onto the group as a live recording, it had over 1,400 views.

“You only have to see the comments to see how well it’s going down.”

One of the videos had 200 comments. over

A viewer said: “Thank you. It’s great to see all the pics and films.”

Mr Gardener said he really enjoys the live aspect of the sessions, as people can comment and he can respond to what they are saying.

He said: “I could have easily just recorded it but then I miss the immediate responses what people are saying.

“It takes me back to my radio show on Fosseway.”

He also said: “Another good and thing about it is it still feels like we’re gathering for our social meeting. Everyone says hello, are you OK.

“It’s another way for the group to reach out.”

One of the sessions has also been uploaded onto YouTube so people can view it there.

It takes Mr Gardener a good day to prepare all the photos and clips for use in the show.

He said he is faring well despite the Covid-19 restrictions.

He said: “It’s strange. On a personal level, I’m missing not being able to see my granddaughters, but I’m sure I’m not the only one.

“I’m keeping well and keeping busy with things, and I’m looking forward to when things start to get better.”

The live broadcasts are on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7.30pm.
