CHARITY Link was already issuing crisis grants to those most in need as a result of the coronavirus in its region before the launch of the Leicestershire Live There With You Fund.
Among them were Anelise and Ben, who moved into their new flat - their first home - after experiencing homelessness.
This young couple were trying to move forward with a very limited income. They are also expecting their first child.
Anelise was nine months pregnant and having to selfisolate to protect herself and that of the health of her baby from Covid-19.
But the couple were sleeping on the floor and had no means to prepare meals as they did not have a cooker. They simply couldn’t afford to purchase the basic starter items they needed.
Charity Link helped by providing a bed, cooker and washing machine so that the couple can start making their flat a home and prepare for their new arrival.
That was before the Randal Charitable Foundation offered its support.
Now, the campaign has launched this week to raise £250,000 to support Leicestershire residents through the coronavirus crisis.
This could mean the likes of Ahmed, who has been staying at a hostel over the past month after experiencing a period of rough sleeping.
He is extremely vulnerable and suffers with Hepatitis B.
To ensure that he and other residents can fully self-isolate, an emergency Covid-19 evacuation was implemented and Ahmed was moved into a tenancy.
However, he had no belongings, no household goods and couldn’t afford to buy such items.
Charity Link helped with a grant towards vouchers so that Ahmed could purchase the essential items he needed. It came with help from his support worker.
The Leicester Mercury and LeicestershireLive, its online service, will report on how grants are being allocated throughout the There With You Fund campaign.
