Easter clean up

-

IF you follow the latest trends on social media such as YouTube and Instagram, you will see lots of videos about cleaning.

There are lots of people (it seems to be mainly women as it happens) who make videos about their ‘Easter super clean’, an ‘Easter kitchen speed clean’ or a ‘lounge vac. and clean’. Mrs Hinch is very well known and seems to be able to clean anything in a few minutes. Her house is always sparkly and her kitchen looks as if it hasn’t been used. Some of the video makers carry out a ‘haul’ (a buying spree) of cleaning products and show you what they have bought. Then they use it to show how effective it is in the kitchen or wherever. You can buy an unbelievable range of cleansers, cleaners, soaps, detergents, bleaches, stainless steel cleaning sprays, bathroom cleaner sprays and so on. There is something for every cleaning situation. We have never had it so clean!

Although it has just passed, did you know that Easter is mainly about cleaning? It isn’t about eggs or bunnies, chocolate or daffodils, it is about cleaning. It isn’t the kitchen or bathroom which should worry us, but that we have a stain which no earthly cleaner can remove, and it is called Sin. We all have it as a dirty great big blot on our record card before God. The stain on our record comes from all of our wrong-doings in life. Every selfish act, every lie we tell, every angry reaction, every cruel word we say, and our turning away from God, is all there darkening our record before God. The problem is that we need a clean record to enter heaven, and this stain can only be cleaned from our record card in one way.

At Easter we remember that Jesus died on the cross for us and then rose again. It is this which can remove the stain of sin from us, but only if we ask God to forgive us and cleanse us. If we do this, then our record is washed wonderfully and completely clean, and we are then able to enter heaven when we die. In the Bible (in 1 John 1:9) it says ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’. Mrs Hinch may help get our kitchen clean, but only Jesus can cleanse away our sin.
