A YOUNG woman who had to stop working due to complications in her pregnancy has been helped by LeicestershireLive’s There With You fund.

Complications meant she would have to stop working as a carer and the woman from Leicester eventually lost her home.

She was in her final trimester when the country went into lockdown, limiting the support she had and she was struggling as a result of having a reduced income.

Due to Covid-19 and the physical distancing restrictions, the woman’s family were unable to help and she was left in a vulnerable position while looking after a newborn baby.

Her baby was born in April and she was able to find a place to live but that flat was unfurnished.

Her support worker referred her to Charity Link.

Susan McEniff, director of marketing and fund-raising for Charity Link, said: “The There With You funds were accessed to provide a fridge-freezer, washing machine and kitchen items.”

The charity was also able to provide a microwave through other accessible funds, setting the woman up with the goods needed to help feed her and her baby.

Another woman, who was pregnant and found herself struggling when mums-to-be were considered at high risk of contracting Covid-19, was helped by the fund.

She was self-isolating when her cooker stopped working.

Kind neighbours were leaving food on the doorstep of her flat but going forward, she was worried about not being able to cater for herself and her unborn child.

There With You funds were able to provide her with a new cooker so she could prepare meals for herself and provide milk for her soon-to-be-born baby.

Since the fund launched in April, we have been able to help some of Leicestershire’s most vulnerable people and will continue to during this period of uncertainty.
