DOG walkers who leave their pets’ mess on the ground are endangering young livestock, police have warned.

Market Bosworth police have urged people to pick up after their pets and to bin their mess.

The force wrote on Facebook about the “particularly grim topic”.

It said: “More walkers enjoying the British countryside invariably means more people taking their dogs for a walk.

“Please don’t pick up the poo then leave the bag full of it on the footpath. You may as well not bother.

“It’s often well-intentioned - ‘I’ll pick it up later.’ Sometimes it’s left and someone else picks it up.

“The bags can be ingested by young livestock and it can make them seriously ill or kill them.

“Consider the stick and flick method if appropriate and flick the mess (not in a bag) into dense undergrowth if you can’t dispose of it in a bin.

“The bags left in undergrowth take years to decompose.”

Jan said: “There were lots of dumped bags fly-tipped in a hedgerow in the car park outside where the lorries always park on the entrance to Burbage Common road.

“They were too far in and far too many for us to collect. I will report to the council.” POLICE HAVE URGED OWNERS TO PICK UP AFTER THEIR PETS AND BIN THEIR MESS
