Industrial site plan ‘could lead to 1,500 jobs’
DEVELOPERS say plans for a huge industrial complex could create more than 1,500 jobs.
Three large industrial units are being proposed on a 79-acre site near Stanton under Bardon.
The scheme, if approved, would see Wood Farm, next to Cliffe Hill Quarry, redeveloped with logistics, storage and general industrial buildings.
Wood Farm Holdings, the company behind the project, said its plans, lodged with officials at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council this month, would build on the success of the industrial developments to the north, in the Bardon Hill industrial complex.
However documents sent to council planners do not indicate which firms would eventually occupy the development.
Consultants representing the developer said: “The proposal will bring about investment in the economy and will require significant direct and indirect building services through the construction phase.
“While some of these jobs may be in place already, the scale of the proposal will assist the construction industry and is likely to contribute to the retention of jobs and creation of some constructionrelated jobs.
“Local trading and especially initiatives during the construction phase would help ensure opportunities and benefits. “The proposed development would generate about 1,500 jobs across the site if developed entirely for logistics, with further jobs created if a mix of industrial and logistics industries are developed.”
Some villagers have already expressed concern about the further growth of industry around Stanton. This scheme would see the developed area leapfrog the B585 West Lane into more open countryside.
There are also concerns about the likelihood of more heavy goods vehicles on the nearby roads.
The plan would see the redevelopment of Wood Farm itself, which is next to the warehouse site that has been set out. Two homes would be built, as well as a series of agricultural buildings.
The council’s planners are the planning application.
