Takeaway takeover as village pub offers fab street food
Duo normally provide food at different events and festivals
A STREET food duo are running a takeaway and delivery service from a village pub.
Kitchen Takeover usually provides burgers and slowcooked beef brisket at events and festivals but the venture is currently operating from The Bull’s Head Freehouse in Stoney Stanton.
Owners Stephen Morgan and Simon Clayfield are working out of the pub kitchen, delivering as far as Huncote, Elmesthorpe, Aston Flamville, Sapcote and Hinckley.
Stephen said: “You have to have flexibility in any business.
“We could have sat down on our laurels and tried to wait it [the coronavirus lockdown] out, or get up and do something.
“The idea is to get up and do something. It took us a couple of weekends to find the appropriate menu.”
He said the most popular dishes so far are the bacon cheeseburger, which comes with bacon frazzles crisps and baconnaise sauce, and the brisket with firecracker sauce.
The duo make all the sauces from scratch and they get their food fresh from local suppliers.
They have also run a raffle, with a ticket handed out with each main meal.
One reviewer said on Facebook: “We ordered monster burger with rosemary and garlic fries, a Morgan Freeman [brisket] box and fire fries.
“Everything was absolutely amazing, the burger was cooked perfectly with the meat still a little pink.
“The brisket and pulled pork were just melt in the mouth and full of flavour.
“Cannot recommend enough, it’s exactly the type of street food we’ve been missing around here.”
Stephen and Simon have 15 years’ cooking experience between them.
Stephen said they may look at running the food service from other pubs or even a high street venue, but they are also looking forward to when the festival scene picks up again.
The Bull’s Head is run by the Elmesthorpe Brewery Company, the same group who run The New Baron of Hinckley.
