Hinckley Times

Around and about borough

Plenty of history groups in the area as well as superb museum which needs our help

WELCOME again to HDPP’s pages right here in the heart of The Hinckley Times.

It has been lovely to hear your lovely feedback about the pictures we feature.

These have in turn led to more pictures kindly donated to our archive. Every year we give a digital copy of the HDPP archive to Greg Drozdz at Hinckley & District Museum.

He has loved seeing some rare pictures that have come to us via either our temporary suspended monthly scanning sessions at St Mary’s church, or indeed what has been sent directly to us via email contact@hdpp.co.uk

So please if you have any pictures you think we may be interested in, please sort them out and either send them to address above or we can arrange to collect and scan and return to you.

Full social distancing would be observed at all times.

Who knows they may even feature here on our pages in The Hinckley Times!

We would like to remind you that there are some super groups that support our local heritage. First one is of course Hinckley & District Museum, although at time of writing it is closed due to Covid19, hopefully this will be open soon.

I would urge you to go along and visit and show your support. It’s a fascinating place to visit, local friendly knowledgeable staff, super exhibits and a smashing tea room.

On a lovely summers day you can’t beat just relaxing in the splendid garden there too. Remember that even though its been closed, the bills do not stop coming in. I imagine the staff would be most grateful of any donations to help offset the burden.

Another super group for Burbage is Burbage Heritage Group run by Sylvia Whitworth. This Facebook group also like HDPP has a splendid website. The group have played a major part in actively preserving the heritage of the village for future generations. Simply search for them when online.

For Barwell and Earl Shilton, Geoff Ellis runs Barwell & Earl Shilton memories. Once again you will find it on Facebook.

For Market Bosworth you can try their website http://marketbosworthsociety.com/ This site has lots of pictures, oral history, pld maps etc. Well worth taking a look.

As for our pictures this week we have once again chosen a random selection of pictures for your enjoyment, a few from Hinckley, Burbage and Barwell.

We will also feature more random pictures from around the villages in the coming weeks.

Please keep safe.
