New look for barber shop as it opens up to the public
Inside and outside has been given a fresh look during lockdown
A BARBER shop in Barwell has relaunched with a fresh interior and a special shopfront feature that hails back to its historic roots.
Workers were renovating 1st Class Gents Barber Shop when they discovered an awning hidden behind a panel above the entrance.
The covering was too tattered to be restored but a new one has now been installed with the shop’s name and contact details to give the place an attractive front on the street.
The inside was also stripped down and repainted during the coronavirus lockdown, being kitted out with fresh seating and ornaments, with the bathroom also refurbished, prior to reopening on July 4.
Air conditioning and an air purifier has also been installed in the shop.
In January 2020, the front doors and windows had to be restored after a car crashed into the shop before driving off.
A community effort helped repair the shattered frame, with the shop up and running again while still boarded up after just a few days.
Now that regulars can return for a trim, safety measures in place include hand sanitising stations, while all staff wear visors, masks, gloves and disposable aprons.
Customers are asked to bring a mask although these can be provided.
Cash and card payments will be accepted, with NHS staff getting a 50 per cent discount.
The barbers has moved to appointments only, which can be booked by calling 07935 541070 or on the Booksy website.
