MP says thanks to volunteers helping out at district council
SOUTH Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa visited the Community Hub at Blaby District Council to thank volunteers and council staff for supporting elderly and vulnerable residents across South Leicestershire during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The council’s Community Hub has helped coordinate 17 community groups set up in villages across Blaby District, and they have been working with local businesses and shops such as Aldi, Marks and Spencer, Fosse Park, the Co-op and Samworth Brothers to deliver groceries and other supplies to local vulnerable people.
Mr Costa said: “I was really delighted to visit Blaby District Council’s Community Hub for National Volunteers’ Week. It was a huge pleasure to meet and thank some of the local volunteers and council staff who I know have been working tirelessly to support elderly and vulnerable residents across South Leicestershire in the previous weeks and months.
“Volunteer organisations have been doing fantastic work in supporting their local communities since the pandemic outbreak began, and I cannot thank them enough for all their wonderful efforts.”
Blaby District councillor and the portfolio holder for health, leisure and regulatory services, Sharon Coe, added: “Blaby District Council
would very much like to say a great big thank you to every voluntary group and individual volunteer that has supported our Community Hub since it was set up in March, we couldn’t have helped all the people that have been helped without you.
“Volunteers have helped deliver food and medicines, walked dogs, made wellbeing calls to check people are okay as well as delivered jigsaws and knitting needles! It was great to welcome our local MP Alberta Costa to the council offices and to say a thank you to a very small group of people who were there to represent all the volunteers across the district. Well done and thank you to you all”.
Mr Costa added: “I have heard first-hand from so many constituents about the support the council’s Community Hub has been providing these last few months; for many it’s been a huge lifeline during this most difficult time and Blaby District Council and their excellent staff deserve real thanks.
“Similarly, it’s been really heartening to hear of all those local businesses and shops that have been doing their part from Marks & Spencer and Fosse Park to the Co-op in Whetstone and the Aldi supermarket in Blaby – to help their local communities in their time of need, my sincere thanks to everyone involved.”
