Working hard behind the scenes
LEICESTER’S Little Theatre, popularly known as the “Jewel of Dover Street”, is currently working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the exciting new season of plays including their renowned traditional pantomime will be as strong as ever when theatres are given the green light to reopen.
This is the first occasion that the Little Theatre has had to close its doors completely. Even during the war years, performances continued and in the 1950s, when the theatre was ravaged by fire, shows were staged in various venues thus echoing the famous Windmill Theatre’s motto “We Never Close”.
The theatre management can reassure all customers having tickets for a show that has been rescheduled will be transferred for a new date and all ticket holders will be notified to this effect, should the new dates be inconvenient refunds would be issued.
Its regular theatre audience hopefully will be encouraged to support the Little by buying advance tickets for future productions and possibly becoming a Little Theatre member!
The theatre’s coronavirus fightback is revving up and it is to be hoped the curtain will rise again by January with the prospect of December depending on the Government’s legislation.
In the short term the Little Theatre invite you to visit their website (www.thelittletheatre.net) where there are theatre quizzes to take part in, videos of past productions to watch plus the chance to put your views forward put together by the vibrant social media team on Facebook, Twitter and so on.
In this surreal time, be assured that all at the Little are striving hard to guarantee that the theatre industry will continue to thrive not just here in Leicester but nationally.
