Girl, two, injured in collision with a car

County air ambulance landed at the scene of the incident

A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a car.

Police were called to a car park in Oaks Way, off Station Road, Earl Shilton, shortly before 3.30pm on Tuesday last week (July 28) after a report of a collision involving the child, a pedestrian, and a grey Mercedes C-class.

East Midlands Ambulance Service, and the air ambulance were also in attendance and the girl was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham.

A police spokeswoma­n said a woman in her 20s was also injured in the incident and she was taken to the same hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

The spokespers­on said a 34-year-old man, from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing serious injury while driving under the influence of drugs.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said: “There were at least 14 police officers and the car park in front of the post office sorting office was taped off.

“The air ambulance was here as well and landed behind the Lord Nelson pub, in Wood Street.

“It was a road ambulance that eventually left with a police escort.”

The girl’s condition has not been disclosed.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with any informatio­n in relation to the incident to get in touch.

Detective Constable Kasie Carter said: “A young girl remains in hospital with serious injuries.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area this afternoon and who witnessed the incident, or anyone who saw the vehicle, to make contact with us.

“If you were in the area of the car park, or Oaks Way or Station Road, please check any CCTV or dashcam footage which you may have which could assist our investigat­ion.

“If you have any informatio­n at all, no matter how insignific­ant it may seem, you should get in touch.” Anyone with any informatio­n is asked to call the police 101 number.
