Libraries re-open but your have to ‘book’ your visit

Fourteen libraries reopen their doors to those who have booked

-

LEICESTERSHIRE’S libraries re-opened their doors on Monday for browsing, borrowing and returning books, using an appointment system.

Fourteen of the county’s main libraries will operate an online booking system, allowing members to book a 25-30 minute slot at their preferred library.

These include Hinckley, Earl Shilton and Broughton Astley libraries.

Residents who are unable to book a slot online can call 0116 305 2695 to book their timed appointment.

There will be a limited number of slots available each day to ensure social distancing is observed within the buildings.

Library users will be able to visit in groups of up to three to browse, borrow and return items. Hand sanitisers will be available at all sites and visitors are being encouraged this week to wear a face covering during their visit.

Councillor Richard Blunt, county council cabinet member for libraries, said: “A lot of work has gone into preparing our libraries and I’m very pleased we are now able to offer another element of our service to our communities.

“We know that many residents have been waiting patiently for libraries to reopen and we believe that the measures we have put in place will leave people feeling confident to return.”

Library staff will be on hand to welcome customers back to their local library and assist them to use the services safely.

For the time being, toilets will be closed to customers and the use of computers will not be available but the council hopes the service will return in September, once necessary health and safety measures are in place.

The click and collect service, available since last week, will continue to operate, as well as launching at Oadby and Wigston libraries ahead of its wider reopening next Monday.

Over 900 orders have been placed in the first three weeks since launching the click and collect service. Visit www. leicestershire.gov.uk/clickand-collect

Some community managed libraries are also open for browsing and to offer the click and collect service. For more information, contact the library directly.
