Lions club thanks villagers for their generosity

Value of donations made to Lions by villagers was over £600

-

HINCKLEY and Burbage Lions Club have thanked the big-hearted villagers of Stoke Golding for helping them deliver a massive boost to Hinckley area’s Foodbank.

As part of the club’s commitment to helping the local community, Lions members took part in a mass leaflet delivery, asking for donations early last week.

Then later on, they returned to collect them and were overwhelmed by the generous response they received.

Lions President Peter Fisher said: ‘When we handed over the proceeds to the Hinckley

Foodbank, they reckoned it was the second largest single evening’s collection.

“So, we owe the generous people of Stoke Golding a massive thank you from our club,” he added.

The total weight of the collection was 355.5kg which equates to a monetary value of £622.13.

And this was very gratefully received by the Foodbank who in the six months between April and October 2019, fulfilled 1448 vouchers feeding 3373 people, over 1/3 of which were children.

A Lions spokesperson said:

“A frightening fact is that one of five of the UK population live below the poverty line and the Covid 19 situation has only exacerbated this.

“You don’t have to have a lot of time or money to be a Lion, just a desire to help do something for others whilst being part of a worldwide organisation.

“Lions is one of the best kept secrets… If you want to know more find us on Facebook or email us at hinckleyandburbagelionsevents@outlook.com or on our Facebook page, or by phoning 0845 833 5892.
