Harvest Festival to take place as well as special market

-

A SMALL Harvest Festival is to take place in Burbage.

The event will feature the usual hymn and prayers of thanksgiving for this year’s harvest, alongside the farmers’ market.

A free prize draw will also be taken, with the chance to win a hamper with produce from each of the stallholders.

Anne Morris, treasurer for Burbage Farmers Market, said she was very pleased the festival was able to go ahead after all the cancelled events this year.

She said: “I think we need something ecumenical to cheer everybody up and give us hope for the future, for the rest of the year up to Christmas, and for the year 2021.”

The market restarted at the beginning of June and has been very well supported.

Social distancing rules are in place, as well as hand sanitisers at the separate entrance and exit.

Ms Morris said: “It’s been very good since we came back, and it’s been getting better.

“Burbage Parish Council is very supportive, it’s in their newsletter every month, and in The Local Rock.

“The church has just started to serve teas and coffees outside.”

Stalls on the market include meat and fruit pies, bread, cheeses and eggs, cakes, refills, paintings and crafts, garden furniture, and soaps.

Hinckley Market also fully reopened over June, with hand sanitising stations provided on the street for shoppers to use.

Stewards, known as High Street Helpers, are also on hand to help advise where a specific market trad

er is and to help prevent groups from gathering and causing a blockage.

The Harvest Festival service will take place on October 3, on the market place, at 10.30am.

The market runs from 9am to 12.30pm on the first Saturday of the month, in the car park of Burbage Methodist Church.
