Fosse Park under water

PARTS OF HALF-BUILT EXTENSION SUBMERGED, SCHOOLS SHUT AFTER PIPE BURSTS

-

THREE schools had to close and the partially-built extension to Fosse Park was flooded due to a burst water main.

The 45-inch main in Narborough Road burst just after 4am on Tuesday, September 8, leaving properties, including several schools, without water.

A number of homes in Blaby, Whetstone, Braunstone, Braunstone Town and Enderby were without water for over seven hours while engineers worked to fix the pipe.

Badgerbrook and St Peter’s primary schools in Whetstone and Fullhurst Community College in Braunstone were all forced to close for the day as they were without water.

The £155 million Fosse Park extension was badly flooded due to the burst main.

According to workers on site, a store which is due to become the new home of Next was next to the burst main.

As a result, the store “had two feet of water” in it.

Engineers from Severn Trent Water were sent to the site shortly after the burst pipe was reported and started working on repairing it at 4.48am.

The supply was not fully restored to homes in the area until noon.

When the supply was fixed, Severn Trent said: “We are happy to confirm that customers in the area now have their water supply restored.

“We have finished the work in the surrounding areas and are the network back to normal.

“Our team will remain on-site to continue with the repairs, and will update the website where necessary.

“Thank you for your patience, and have a lovely rest of the day.”

As well as the loss of water in some LE2, LE8 and LE19 postcode areas, other residents reported “discoloured and cloudy” water coming from taps. putting
