Group celebrates this year’s Pride - with online activities
A GROUP in Hinckley and Bosworth has celebrated LGBT+ Pride.
The ‘True Colours’ LGBT+ events partnership marked Leicester Digital Pride day with a host of activities online.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing requirements meant the regular Leicester Pride event wasn’t able to take place.
However, thanks to the Leicester LGBT Centre and Trade Sexual Health, it was celebrated over the web.
The ‘True Colours’ partnership put up content, including videos and photos, throughout the day on their Twitter account.
The partnership usually runs a number of events throughout the year in Hinckley and Bosworth, marking key LGBT+ celebrations and commemorations.
Organisers hope that some events will be able to take place in 2021, depending on Government guidelines.
Mathew Hulbert is part of the partnership and is former chairman of the Leicester LGBT Centre.
He said: “It’s obviously a shame that we weren’t able to celebrate our wonderful and diverse LGBT+ communities in person this year, but it was good that we online.
“Pride is always both a celebration of how far we’ve come and a protest at how far there is still to go to achieve full equality for all of our communities, thinking especially of our trans and non-binary friends who, sadly, often face regular discrimination both online and offline.
“We will continue to campaign for full equality, dignity and recognition for all of our communities.”
