Strict infection control guidelines are being followed by staff Care residents reunite with loved ones as visits resume
RESIDENTS at a Hinckley care home have been reunited with their loved ones for the first time since the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
Staff at The Ashton have welcomed back visitors to see their family members, in emotional scenes. Scheduled visits in the home’s gardens can take place, with social distancing guidelines in place to ensure visitors can see loved ones face-to-face while still ensuring residents’ safety.
The Ashton has strict infection control guidelines which are being followed including use of PPE by staff.
Visits are currently limited to one guest per resident. All visitors are required to wear a face mask for garden visits and they have their temperature taken on arrival.
The Ashton closed its doors on March 13, 10 days before the national lockdown was introduced.
Home manager Paulo Alexandre Morais Albernaz Leitao said: “The staff have worked extremely hard to keep our residents safe and that is why we are so pleased to commence these garden visits.
“We’ve been keeping things as normal as possible at The Ashton and keeping our residents busy but we know the importance of family connection.
“Naturally, residents have missed their loved ones and it has given them so much joy to see family members in person after five months without seeing each other. It has been really heartwarming for myself and staff to witness.”
The Ashton was rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission earlier this year and it was described by the health and social care regulator as a “comfortable place to live” which is supported by “kind and compassionate staff”.
