Running events in 2021

-

RUNNING is one of the most popular pastimes.

Millions of people started running in 2020 as the pandemic struck.

Almost all of the major marathons and running events ended up being cancelled in 2020. It is hoped that things will be back to something a bit more normal and events are already accepting entries.

You don’t have to be a serious club runner to enjoy these events.

Marathons may be the most wellknown distance for running events but more people actually take part in half marathons or 10k events - or even just 5k runs such as Park Runs.

Here is a guide to some of the biggest and best events to enjoy in the Midlands.

Robin Hood Half Marathon, Nottingham, Sunday September 26

This is the 40th anniversary of the event.

The first ever Robin Hood runners took to the streets in 1981. Since then the event has become a firm favourite in the race calendar for thousands across the country. In the past decade alone, over 100,000 runners have laced up, taken to the 13.1 mile course and proudly collected their finishers’ medal.

There’s an event for everyone at this milestone occasion – kids, get ready to take on mum and dad at the start line of the Mini Marathon. Put your classmates to the test with the Schools Challenge and who will reign champion of your colleagues in the Corporate Challenge? Early bird entries are now open for the 40th anniversary event – don’t delay, visit the event’s website and bag your best discounted spot today.

Following runner feedback and making conscious steps in the event’s approach to sustainability, the event now has a 2-tier race entry structure; one for those runners who would like a 40th anniversary commemorative finisher’s t-shirt and a goody bag from £32.95, and an alternative option for those just wanting their race medal from £29.95.

Lichfield Half Marathon May 9

This event has been rescheduled from Oct 2020. The previous halfmarathon was a huge success and will be using the same scenic 13.1mile route taking in the picturesque villages of Whittington and Fradley which surround the beautiful city of Lichfield.

The city centre finish to the race affords a stunning view of Lichfield Cathedral, making this arguably one of the most visually spectacular finishes to a half-marathon anywhere in the world.

Birmingham Insurance Institute 5k and 10k Run – 21 March 2021 – Tamworth

Whether you’re a serious runner or just fancy a Sunday jog with the family around the beautiful castle grounds, this run is for you!

The profits from events organised by the Birmingham Insurance Institute Young Professionals during the year are donated to the BII President’s chosen charity for the year, The Way Wolverhampton Youth Zone, and/or The Insurance Charities.
