Covid survivor thanks caring hospital staff

-

a WoMan from barwell who narrowly avoided dying of Covid-19 has spoken of her immense gratitude to the nHS staff who cared for her while she was in hospital.

anne Jones spent Christmas in Glenfield Hospital after she fell ill with serious symptoms of coronavirus, including struggling to breathe and feeling a lot of pain.

She had tested positive for the virus on December 14 and was admitted to hospital on December 23 before being transferred to the intensive care unit. “i owe my life to Glenfield Hospital”, she said.

“i’m lucky to be alive. the doctors told me when i came out of intensive care. i thanked the doctors and the nurses.”

Ms Jones had regular blood tests and was on drips while she was in intensive care. She was well enough to return home on January 6.

“it’s the best hospital. i owe them my life,” she added.

Ms Jones said she is still feeling ill as a result of the virus, but is now strong enough to eat and drink.

Mental health practitioners should be based in coronavirus vaccine centres to help support people suffering from poor mental health, an MP has proposed.

Dr luke evans suggested the initiative in a question to vaccines minister nadhim Zahawi.

the bosworth MP said: “lockdown has affected the mental wellbeing of almost everyone in this country.

“now, the vaccine programme is going to mean the nHS comes into contact with almost every adult in the country.

“So, with that in mind, will the minister consider having a mental health worker at all the national vaccine centres to provide opportunistic mental health interventions should people need it?”

Mr Zahawi said he would discuss the “excellent and thoughtful” idea with another minister.

Dr evans said: “Coronavirus has had a huge effect on the nation’s mental health.

“Studies have shown both globally and nationally millions of people have suffered since the pandemic started.

“We have a real opportunity to make meaningful interventions in vaccine hubs as one way of improving the nation’s mental health.

“there has never been a time in our history where the nHS will come into contact with so many of the population in such a short period of time.

“this is a golden chance to provide easy access for those who may not usually seek help.

“restoring good mental health isn’t an overnight fix and some will face long-term effects, but providing the public an easy option to get support is a great first step.”
