Kate’s on her way to a great new career thanks to training scheme

-

THE county council’s Inspired to Care team has joined forces with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), CT Skills, and Job Centre Plus to train jobseekers currently on universal credit to embark on a rewarding career in adult social care.

The end goal is for them to complete a level 1 health and social carer qualification, along with employability training and virtual work experience.

The scheme is delivered by Leicester based training provider, CT Skills, with the council’s adult social care workforce team, Inspired to Care, then matching successful learners with job vacancies in social care.

Kate Hammonds, from Market Bosworth, is one of the new recruits. She said: “I’ve always wanted to step into the care sector but never thought this would be possible.

“However, I was approached by my work coach at the job centre about a social care sector-based work academy, given an entry paper and passed with flying colours.

“It boosted my confidence so much, I was then put in touch with a great tutor (Esther), who supported me through an online course which I finished within a few weeks.

“That provided me with the online tools, support and recognised qualifications and Inspired to Care then helped me secure an interview with a care home, within walking distance of where I live, Bosworth Court Care Home.

“Everyone involved in this academy went above and beyond to assist and to help me find the right job and I would recommend their courses to everyone; it’s been such a success for me.

“I now have aspirations to grow and build my career. I can’t thank everyone enough; they have changed my life and I now have a career doing something I love and very much close to my heart.”

Councillor Richard Blunt, cabinet member for adult social care, said: “Kate’s story is an inspiration to us all. I am very pleased that she has found a rewarding career that she can see herself in for the rest of her working life.

“I encourage everyone who is looking for their next job role to speak to our Inspired to Care team.”

Bharat Keshwala, Partnership Manager at Job Centre Plus, said: “The opportunity to train and receive a recognised Health and Social Care Qualification has been well received by Universal Credit customers.

If you live in the Leicestershire area, are in receipt of benefits, and are interested in training within the care sector please speak to your local Job Centre or send a message through your Universal Credit journal.

You will have a guaranteed job interview with a local employer on successful completion of this 15-day online course.
