Park yobs clamber on top of police car

Plea to parents as officers are targeted after breaking up large gathering of youths

- News Reporter By NICHOLAS DAWSON

YOBS smashed off a wing mirror from a police car and clambered on to the roof after a large group of young people was dispersed from a Hinckley park.

Officers were called to Clarendon Park where a big group of youths, far more than the allowed gathering of up to six people, had met up in the warm weather, on Wednesday, March 31.

Hinckley Police said on its Facebook page: “When challenged they have been abusive and rude to our officers. On dispersing the groups and returning to the police car we find that the wing mirror has been broken off and they have been using it as a piece of play area equipment.

“Our crime scene investigators have recovered fingerprints and we will be dealing with those responsible.”

Hand and shoe prints were found on the police car’s windscreen and roof. The beat team urged parents in the town with children aged 12 to 18 to be mindful of where their youngsters are, as they could face a fine if their children are found flouting the Covid rules.

Officers also said in the post: “This behaviour will not be tolerated we have all been looking forward to meeting friends and family and with the behaviour we have seen tonight we will be back in lockdown by the end of April at this rate.

“Very disappointing.”

There have been problems with littering in several parks in the town over the past few days, as popular green spaces such as Clarendon Park have become busier during the warm weather.

Groups of six people from two different households can now meet in open air spaces.

Police in Market Bosworth issued a warning after a growing number of reports of Covid breaches as the rules have relaxed.
