Awards to highlight efforts of volunteers during the pandemic
THE borough council is launching its annual Making a Difference Awards which recognise the contribution that volunteers make in strengthening the community and improving the quality of life for residents.
The awards recognise both individual and group volunteering contributions.
This year there is only one category to recognise those who you think deserve to be hailed for the support they have given to others during the coronavirus pandemic.
This could be an individual, group, school or organisation.
A spokesperson said: “Whilst it continues to be a very difficult and challenging time, one of the positive factors has been the incredible show of community spirit, kindness and generosity. “We know that many of our volunteers have been giving their time and support for many years, indeed in some cases for decades, and we have seen a significant upsurge of new volunteers over the last year, including many young people. This has been both heartwarming and critical in helping our community stay safe and well.”
Edwina Grant, community planning manager for the borough council, said: “Coronavirus continues to present a significant challenge to us all.
“There are many people across the borough who have needed additional help and support during these difficult times and it has been amazing to hear about the many people who have come forward to help in countless different ways.
“The awards give everyone the opportunity to say thank you and highlight the support given throughout this very difficult year, much of which goes on behind the scenes.”
