‘Appalling’ increase in littering as people now meeting up
LITTERING has increased in green spaces in Hinckley and Bosworth as more people have come out during the warm weather and as the coronavirus restrictions relax.
The borough council posted a picture of paper bags and napkins dumped by a bench in Richmond Park, saying there has been a “big increase” in people leaving their rubbish over recent days.
The authority said in a post on its Facebook page: “We’ve increased litter picking crews and bins but we need your help to keep our parks and public areas looking good for everyone.
“If you are meeting up with friends and family, please use the bins provided and if the bins are already full, take your litter home with you. Thank you.”
Groups of up to six people from two households can now meet spaces privately or in public. Several people commented on the post to say they had also seen mess people had left behind in parks. Tracey Underwood said on Wednesday, March 31: “I’m appalled at how bad Clarendon Park was this morning on my dog walk. Broken bottles, coffee cups, you name it, left around. What is wrong with these people?” A council representative told the Hinckley Times all of the parks in Hinckley had seen an increase, with Richmond Park, Clarendon Park, Queen’s Park and Wykin Park the worst affected, as well as Burbage Common.
In the time it took the bin crews to empty the bins and litter pick Clarendon Park on March 31, the litter bins had filled again and the team had to go around for a second time. in open
