Trust team transforms garden

- By MASON MOORE

YOUNG people working with the Prince’s Trust in Hinckley have transformed an overgrown garden for a special school.

Team members spent two weeks working on the Dorothy Goodman School site in Ashby Lane, Hinckley, ahead of the students’ return.

Activities included refurbishing benches, trimming hedges and painting outdoor furniture.

Jordan Lutchman, team leader of the Prince’s Trust programme in Hinckley, said: “The group had to do a two-week community programme in weeks five and six of the course.

“They were fund-raising in weeks three and four.

“Dorothy Goodman answered our call when we were looking for opportunities for a project.”

The school and the Prince’s Trust have worked together in previous years, when volunteers from the trust helped to maintain allotment gardens at one of Dorothy Goodman’s other Hinckley locations.

Thomas Page-Brown, assistant team leader of the Prince’s Trust programme in Hinckley, said: “I think the team members have come a long way and done really well.

“They have signed up to the cause and committed to something good and purposeful. It’s great to see what they achieved by pulling together.”

Hayden, who worked on the project, said: “I know many of their students enjoy using the garden to relax.

“So I found it good helping to give the garden a new lease of life which will give their students a happy and warm environment.”

Emma Draycott, from the school, said: “This is the second time the Prince’s Trust has worked with us.

“The kids appreciate it, and it also helped the trust’s members in giving them good work from what they have done for us.

“Even the memory bench has been restored and that was on its last legs before they helped us out, so it’s good to see that has been restored for use once again.”
