Azaylia charity donates £20k to hospital that cared for the poorly tot

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

AN incredible £20,000 donation has been made to Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the memory of an inspirational baby.

The Azaylia Foundation has made its first donation to the hospital where Azaylia Cain received treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia.

It came on the day of the launch of the charity set-up in the name of the eight-month-old and was the first time that her parents, Ashley Cain and Safiyya Vorajee had visited the hospital since their baby sadly lost her battle in April.

It was to thank the hospital and its staff for the “treatment, love and care” she received.

A post on the foundation’s page on Instagram read: “On Tuesday’s launch, @miss_safiyya_ and @mrashleycain visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital to gift them with a £20,000 cheque.

“It was the first time the couple had been back at the hospital since Azaylia passed so it was a very emotional day for all.

“Birmingham Children’s Hospital was a second home to Azyalia; the treatment, the love and care received by NHS staff was exceptional and this is why it was so important for the foundation to give back.”

“This is just the start of donations from The Azaylia Foundation, we have pledged to be on the ground, raising even more funds to help give back to

children fighting cancer and those that help them.

“We will harness the incredible community support to change lives, bring smiles to the darkest corners and be there for little lions who battle every day.”

The news about the first donation comes as former Barwell FC player Ashley continues his 1,000-mile bike ride to raise money for the foundation.

He is cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats and has been overwhelmed with the reception received at every town they have stopped at so far on the journey, with crowds turning out with orange balloons and donations for the cause.

It is one of a number of gruelling cycling challenges he plans to undertake, including the Three Peaks, cycling between each of the three mountains, as well as a bike ride from his home in Nuneaton to Paris, as well as across part of India, too.
